Sersale and its surroundings are rich in history and beautiful natural landscapes including the Valli Cupe canyon, unique in Italy for its geomorphological characteristics. The area has become in few years a model for eco-friendly tourism that was experienced and implemented “on site”, and for this reason aroused interest and admiration. The high vertical walls of the Valli Cupe area are often inaccessible and uneven, with a myriad of small crevices carved by atmospheric agents, where birds live their undisturbed life and build their nests.
Several majestic monoliths are deeply nestled into the wild forests and form a secluded and unknown world. About a hundred wonderful waterfalls, some higher than 100 m, surrounded by sub-tropical lush vegetation, are fed by impetuous streams flowing along the mountain slopes down to the Ionian Sea. The Valli Cupe area has deserved much attention by green tourists as well as the national and international scientific community; moreover, the Regional Council of Calabria established the “Regional Natural Valli Cupe Reserve” by the law 41 dated December 21, 2016.
